“Let’s go in” you say, rather breathlessly. “There could be anything back there!”
Despite Suzie’s feeble protestations, the twins follow as you push open the gates. The hinges groan as if they have not been open for years. As you make your way down the faint, overgrown path, your imagination starts to go a little wild. Where could this path lead? To an abandoned mine, pirate’s gold, ancient ruins? It is sure to be something spectacular, you just know it.
It is starting to get dark out now, and the evening brings with it a breeze that makes the trees whisper ominously. You wish you had thought to take a sweatshirt before you left as you notice your shadow growing longer in front of you.
“Maybe we should turn around” Suzie says hopefully, “it’s getting late and we don’t have a flashlight.
“You guys can go back” you say, “but I want to see where this leads.” You can’t say why you feel so determined to go on, but you feel compelled to continue.
Even though Suzie repeatedly claims she is going to turn around and head home, the three of you continue on. As you round a wide curve in the path, the forest clears revealing a ruinous building. It looks like it must be a house, but it is so covered with vegetation that it’s hard to make out the exact shape of the structure. You slowly walk around the building, realizing that you are approaching from behind. From the front, you see a three storied brick house with two tall gables and a low front porch. The roof of the porch is bowed and in many places the bricks are crumbling. Five or six different chimneys in various states of disrepair jut up towards the sky. Ivy crawls thickly up the walls, covering three quarters of the house. It is all very desolate.

You carefully walk up onto the porch, testing the wood to make sure it can hold your weight. You see the front door is slightly ajar. You start to push it open..
“What are you doing? “ gasps Carl, “Are you completely nuts? We can’t go in there!”
You stop to ponder your situation, you decide:
