“I’m not scared,” you say. “But it’s getting kind of late in the day to go exploring. Let’s do it another day when we have more daylight.”
“Fine,” Carl says, clearly annoyed. “We wouldn’t want to be lost in the woods in the big, bad dark now would we?”
You turn around and head back down the path, trying to ignore Carl. At first everything seems normal, the birds are singing quietly and the sun is filtering through the trees casting a lazy golden light on everything. It starts to dawn on you that you’ve been walking way too long; you should have made it out of the woods already. You stop for a moment, looking around to try to get your bearings. Suzie and Carl tramp on ahead of you, you have to run to catch up. Suddenly they both stop so abruptly that you crash into Carl and fall to the ground.
“Oh man!” Carl says. He is staring off at something ahead of him.
“What?” you say as you scramble up, trying to act as if you were not just a complete klutz. When you get to your feet, you see it. There in front of you is the gate, again. “That can’t be,” you say loudly. “We just left here!”
“This is just too freaky!” breathes Suzie quietly. “ What do we do now?”
