Here are a few sneaky ways for you to give your room a makeover, spending little or no money.
Get a box of nails from a hardware store, hammer them into the wall, and hang up a group of like objects. Voilà – your collection of old matchbox covers is now art.
... (do this outside), and set it by your bed for an insta-nightstand. Each step provides a space for holding your books, drinks, alarm clock and more.
Tape off the same width as the head of your bed on the wall. This will be the base of the headboard. Then tape a rectangle, going as high on the wall as you want your headboard to go. Paint within the borders of the tape. Once the paint is dry, push your bed against the wall, and enjoy your new bed!
Take a bunch of photos with you to your nearest copy shop or library. These can be family photos, postcards, pictures from art books, whatever you like. Copy the photos in black and white. (Hint: The black and white will actually come out better if you put the copier on the color setting.)
Next stop is a hardware store. Buy a few rolls of colored electrical tape. If you want more colors, go to your nearest art supplies store.
Back in your room, frame your art with the colored tape, and then stick it to the wall. You’ve now got a striking wall of homemade art!
