10 Tips for Growing Readers

Now you can download eBooks and read them on your home computer or portable device. The public libraries also have a variety of other types of digital media for all ages, free of charge.

Choose from thousands of English language titles (with additional titles in Spanish and Chinese) for children, teens and adults:

  • eBooks: Read a book on your computer or portable device.
  • Audio: Listen to a book or music (mostly classical) on your computer or portable audio device.
  • Video: Watch a video on your computer or portable video device.

The only thing you need is a library card from one of New York City's public libraries. Just check out your media from your library's website by using your library card barcode number and downloading the free software needed to play your media.

There is a special section of animated picture books for kids, called TumbleBooks, that don't require library cards or downloads. They can be viewed on library and home computers.
